September 2007

Next Meeting: September 10, 7:30 p.m.,
UT School of Music, M3.112 (floor 3M)

Our secretary/treasurer, Joe Dunn, will be presenting this month's program. At the national convention in Kansas City this summer, he attended a class taught by Jack Wyatt called "Turbocharging the Vertical Piano: High Performance Vertical Regulation." The grand piano's action design is such that it allows a note to repeat without the key returning to its normal (at rest) height. A vertical piano can be "turbocharged," increasing its speed of repetition and achieving the same result. We will think through the process and see with our own eyes how it is done. This technique has been applied to a piano in Joe's shop recently. He will explain the trials and tribulations of bringing a recently reconditioned upright up to the speedy conditions of a Turbocharged piano.

TSA Convention

Our Texas State Association will be convening in Oklahoma City this October from the 11th through the 14th. To read more about it, and to register, go to http://ptg.org/tsa . Because of this seminar, we normally do not have a chapter meeting in October. However, since we have some new members who might enjoy meeting to discuss the written and technical exams for becoming an RPT, and since we did not meet in August, it might be worthwhile scheduling a meeting in October before TSA. We could meet Oct 1st at 7:30 in M3.112. The testing models and jigs could also be brought to that meeting. Please look at your schedules and be thinking about whether you'd like to do this.

Hope to see you Monday night!
(and feel free to call or write with any questions or comments)
