Newsletter November 2007
Next Meeting: Monday, November 5th at 7:30 P.M. UT School of Music M3.112
This meeting will be a report on the excellent TSA Seminar held recently in Oklahoma City. Joe Dunn and I will report on
classes we attended.
Before the meeting, from 7:00 to 7:30, I will be in M3.112 with the string jig for anyone who wants to practice tying string
knots and loops. We have five associate members who have passed the written test this year! As they are now ready to move on to the technical exam, we're providing this time for them or anyone else who would like to
practice tying knots and loops and replacing strings.
During the TSA business meeting, the members present voted to change the name of TSA (Texas State Association) to SCRC
(South Central Regional Conference). The plan, unofficial so far, is to meet in San Antonio in October 2008. At the banquet, Norman Cantrell was awarded the Jimmy Gold Award. Jimmy Gold is considered by many to be
the father of TSA. For those of you not familiar with TSA, here is a quotation from the organization's mission statement:
The objectives of TSA shall be to promote the highest possible standards for piano service and to effectively promote
and improve the piano tuning and servicing industry. TSA shall be democratic in its government and all its functions, promote the interests of the piano technician, promote music and especially the use of the
piano. The operation and function of TSA shall not be inconsistent with the bylaws, regulations, codes and principals of the Piano Technicians Guild, Inc.
During Monday night's meeting, we would like to discuss the possibility of a December gathering for our chapter members and
their guests.
Our next scheduled meeting will be January 7th, 2008. We will start the new year at the same time and place - exact details
will be provided in the next newsletter.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
For Technicians Who Live and Work in Texas
On November 6th, be sure to vote FOR Proposition 6 on your ballot. The following
is an excerpt from the website mentioned below:
Protect your car and yourself ... from unfair taxation
Texans have an opportunity to protect our cars from an unfair tax by voting
for Proposition 6 on Nov. 6! When passed, this amendment to the state constitution will guarantee that independent business people in Texas will
not have to pay $600 or more per year in property taxes for their personal vehicles. Read more about this issue, see who could be affected, and find out what you can do to help.
For further information, go to www.voteforprop6.org . A big thanks to Joe Dunn
for alerting us to this important issue.
With the busiest time of the year on us again, I wish good health and spirit to all.
