My fellow technicians, I hope those of you who attended the Davenport seminar were able to come away with information to help you better your technical skills. I feel that’s the main reason for having a local PTG chapter here in Austin, to share ideas and skills to make us all better at our craft! Our next meeting is at Bill Cory’s home, and it’s going to be an eye opener for those of us who have not had contact with a historic piano. Here’s what Bill has to say: The June 6th program will be at the home of Bill Cory at 7:30 p.m. His address is 711 Landon Ln and is located just a few blocks from our regular meeting space at the UT Music Building. To access his street: go north from campus on Red River past 32nd street (closed). Turn left on Harris Ave., then left on Harris Park Ave., then left on Landon Ln. The program will be presented by Keith Womer. Mr. Womer is the musical director of the Baroque group, La Follia. He is a superb keyboard musician and is highly knowledgeable about performance practice and early instruments. He will share his most recent instrument acquisition with us, a reproduction of one of the earliest pianos ever built by Bartolomeo Cristofori (early 1700s). It is a fascinating instrument which demonstrates Christoforis genius and it sounds beautiful too! There are only a few of these in the whole world. Come see and listen. That’s all I have for now, so help support our great chapter, and learn something too. Respectfully, Linn Roath |
