Report on the National Convention
Our guild celebrated its 50th birthday in Kansas City, Mo. last month, and this meeting will be a discussion of what went on
there, specifically:
- Council meeting
- Classes that we attended
- Other things we may have learned from being there and visiting with other technicians
- The wonderful exhibit hall full of pianos, tools, supplies, and more.
Five members of our chapter attended: Michelle Smith, Joe Dunn, Charles Ball, Jeff Farris, and Steve Walthall, so we'll get
to see the convention from different angles.
Steve found the council meeting (his first) interesting; the council voted mostly the way the board had hoped. If you read
the supplement that came with your May journal, you'll know what that means, and if not, Steve will be glad to answer any questions that you might have about it.
Other Quick News
- Dale Probst, RPT was elected President of the PTG (Texan)
- Jack Wyatt, RPT was honored with the Golden Hammer Award (Texan)
- Norman Cantrell, RPT was elected our Regional Vice President (Norman's not from Texas, but then,
nobody's perfect! ;-). Just kidding, Norman!)
You may go to http://ptg.org and click on blog to see some pictures from the convention, and there will much more in the next journal or two.
One final note from this year's convention:
Steve Walthall completed his training to be a Certified Technical Examiner (TEC). Now, when one of our Associates passes the
written exam for certification to become an RPT, we have someone here in Austin to give the technical exam.
Our Chapter
It is now official. Our officers are:
- Steve Walthall, President
- Tom Seay, Vice-President
- Joe Dunn, Secretary/Treasurer
We've been going through some changes with our chapter's website. Tom Seay has graciously consented to be the contact person
for our web-maven, Linda Bingham. He's helped her by providing a new listing of our membership that will be easier for her to work with as she maintains our chapter directory. She's in the process of adding links to
members' business websites, and has reiterated her offer to build individual pages for individual members who don't have business websites. If you've got some content that you'd like to have linked to the Austin PTG
website, please write to Tom, and he'll pass along the information to Linda. His e-mail address is t.seay@mail.utexas.edu .
Linda is doing a wonderful job with our web site. Thank you, Linda!
Important Notice:
If your e-mail address changes, please contact Tom as soon as possible so that he can change your address in the newsletter
e-mail list. Otherwise, you won't get your newsletter.
Coming Up
Because of Labor Day, our September meeting is scheduled for the second Monday, September 10th, at 7:30 In the UT music
building room M3.112. Unless there is a change in plans, Joe Dunn will make a presentation on how to turbo charge a vertical piano, something he learned at the Kansas City convention. TSA is in Oklahoma City
October 11th -14th -- http://ptg.org/tsa -- so there will be no Austin PTG meeting that month.
Be thinking about whether you'd like to meet for an early dinner at Theadgill's (downtown) Sunday afternoon August 12th at 5
pm. Or could we take a real break in August?
Hope everyone is having a really good summer!
