Austin Chapter PTG Newsletter January 2008
Happy New Year! We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season as we look forward to a happy and prosperous 2008. This is
the time of the year which inspires us to do better in our personal and professional lives.
Next meeting - Monday, January 7th, 7:30 P.M., UT School of Music, Room M3.112 (mezzanine level 3M)
At Monday's meeting, we will have a general discussion of what we want to accomplish in 2008. We will also continue to
focus on the tasks involved in the technical test for RPT status.
Before the meeting, from 7:00 to 7:30, we will be in M3.112 with the string jig for anyone who wants to practice tying
string knots and loops. We have six associate members who have passed the written test in 2007! Because they are now ready to move on to taking the technical exam, we're providing this time for them or anyone
else who would like to practice tying knots and loops and replacing strings. We will have other tasks and info, too. Call Steve if you would like time on a specific task. 512-680-3366.
Holiday dinner report
Our December dinner was very enjoyable. Thanks to everyone who was there for our impromptu, if not strategic, move from
Tex-Mex to Chinese. It turned out to be a very relaxed setting with good food and company. Some of us, including Buford, walked the trail of lights afterwards. (For those of you who might not know, Buford is
Steve's faithful canine companion and social secretary).
Upcoming meetings
This year's meetings will be held on the first Monday of the month at the same time and place, unless otherwise notified.
- February - We look forward to learning more about installing the back action with Jeff Farris
- March - Tom Seay will give a presentation on center pinning and flange rebushing, with an eye towards taking the technical examination
- May - Bill Cory will give us his presentation on tuning stability, which is the same class he will be presenting at the national convention this June in California
For more information about the upcoming convention, go to http://ptg.org/conv/2008/
AN IMPORTANT REMINDER
As of January 1, 2008, associates can no longer use the PTG logo in advertising and printed materials, according to the
Home Office. This is another good reason to upgrade to RPT. This is not to say that we don't love our associates, 'cause we do. So all you Associate members out there, get busy and work hard towards obtaining
your RPT classification. You'll be glad you did.
See you Monday night.

Tom Seay, RPT Vice-President 454-1452
